Polish ski mountaineer Andrzej Bargiel climbed Mt. Everest and skied down, which might be the most dangerous Red Bull stunt ever. He spent 16 hours in the "Death Zone" without extra oxygen, becoming the first in the world to do so while climbing and skiing. The "Death Zone" is named because, above 8,000 meters (26,247 feet), oxygen levels are only 33% of normal, making it hard for humans to survive more than 18-20 hours. You can watch Red Bull's 30-minute YouTube video of the climb, which has some incredible footage.

What's Going on in Japan? - by Grizzle Research & Quant

Takaichi becoming Japan's Prime Minister is good news for the stock market because it indicates a more energetic leadership similar to Shino Abe's style. This change is expected to bring stronger policies on defense and immigration as Japan's politics adjust to the rise of right-wing populism.

There is increasing proof of a gap in age groups within Japanese politics. Information reveals that over 55% of the votes for the LDP in the Upper House election were from people older than 70. This means that the main supporters of the long-ruling LDP are likely to decrease in the coming years as they age. Read more…

The Long Read 📜

In March 2020, when the Covid pandemic began, Christina Chapman, who lived in Arizona and Minnesota, got a LinkedIn message. It asked her to be the "US face" of a company and help IT workers from other countries find remote jobs. As remote work became common, Chapman helped these foreign workers get jobs at many US companies, including big ones like Nike, a top Silicon Valley tech company, and a well-known media and entertainment company. The employers believed they were hiring US citizens, but the workers were actually from North Korea.

Cybercriminals will keep improving their scams using artificial intelligence. Companies should research applicants online because scammers often reuse résumé content. By searching the first few lines of a résumé, companies might find identical ones with similar job histories, which is a warning sign. During interviews, background noise like a call center or refusal to remove a fake background can be concerning. Although more companies are asking employees to return to the office part-time after the pandemic, there is a doubt that all companies will do this, even though it could stop these scams. Read more…
